LTC Ryan Kenny

LTC Ryan Kenny is a native of Billings, Montana. He enlisted in the Army in 1996 and attended basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. LTC Kenny was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army’s Signal Corps in 2003. During his career, LTC Kenny has served in the 82nd Airborne Division, 516th Signal Brigade, Special Mission and Army Special Operations Units in a variety of command and operational assignments. He currently commands the 112th Signal Battalion (SO)(A). 

LTC Kenny has had three Combat Deployments in Afghanistan, totaling 25 months.

LTC Kenny’s military education includes Basic Airborne Course, Jumpmaster Course, Signal Officer Basic Course, the Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare School, and the U.S. Naval War College. As a captain, he was selected for a Department of the Army broadening opportunity to attend the UNC-IDB Strategic Studies program. As a major, he was selected to serve as a Director Fellow in the Chief of Naval Operations Strategic Studies Group (2016). LTC Kenny earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Cognitive Psychology and Japanese from the University of Notre Dame. He holds a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College. As a Lieutenant Colonel, he was selected as a Goodpaster Scholar through the CSA-sponsored Advanced Strategic Planning and Policy Program (ASP3). This fellowship enabled him to earn his Ph.D. in 2022 from the Engineering and Public Policy Program at Carnegie Mellon University where his dissertation focused on artificial intelligence and human decision-making.

LTC Kenny’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal; the Defense Meritorious Service Medal; the Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters; the Army Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters; the Army Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters; the Valorous Unit Award; the Meritorious Unit Award with one Oak Leaf Cluster; the Army Good Conduct Medal; the National Defense Service Medal; the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with two Bronze Star Devices; the Global War on Terrorism Service Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon with one Oak Leaf Cluster; and the NATO Medal. Major Kenny is authorized to wear the Combat Action Badge, the Parachutist Badge, and the German Sports Badge (gold). LTC Kenny is CISSP and PMP certified and is a Jump Master. 

LTC Kenny is married to the former Megan Jean Murphy. They have twins, John Michael Kenny and Mary Katherine Kenny.
