Dr. Nicholas (Nick) Kaminski

Dr. Nicholas (Nick) Kaminski is a Wireless Security Researcher in the Idaho National Laboratory (INL). His research explores the intersection of artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) and achieving secure, resilient communication systems. His particular interest lies in identifying and controlling interactions in intelligent systems that degrade security and resilience in practical scenarios. Nick takes a multi-disciplinary approach to research that draws from a wide variety of fields, but he grounds this approach with a bias toward implementation-driven experimentation with practical systems. He has significant experience in the research and development of flexible, adaptive systems in both international academic and national security focused areas prior to joining INL in May 2023. His prior experience includes providing subject matter expertise to DoD on the practical use of AI/ML at the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA). Before that, Nick established and federated open testbeds to support the remote development of AI/ML for communications across Europe. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech).
